John Borack Returns To The Time Machine

Rock drummer for The Popdudes and music journalist John Borack returned to The Time Machine. This time around John took over the airwaves as guest disc jockey and the song selections were a musical treat to the radio audience. John discussed his first book "Shake Some Action: The Ultimate Power Pop Guide" and shared a bit about his second book "John Lennon: Life Is What Happens" soon to be published this fall. As an author, John explained what makes this latest John Lennon book so unique. He also shared good news for fans of his first Power Pop book, there will be a second volume titled "Power Pop 360", which will celebrate the genre's finest songs. It was a fun radio show kicking off with radio host Kathy Collins talking story with John Borack before he took over air talent Summer Blue's seat and microphone.

"Shake Some Action: The Ultimate Power Pop Guide" at Not Lame

The Bangles - "I'm In Line" and "Want You" (1982)

The Bangles self titled debut EP from 1982 was recorded in less than a week. The band’s urgency can be found in their sixties garage rock sound. The EP has yet to see a digital release but the demand of fans will keep this on a wish list for years to come.

“I’m In Line” is sung by drummer Debbi Peterson. Rhythm guitar is Susanna Hoffs with Vicki Peterson on lead guitar and Annette Zilinskas on bass. Annette also plays harmonica elsewhere on the EP. The record was produced by Craig Leon who played piano on both “Mary Street” and “The Real World”. Ethan James also played piano on “The Real World”.

“Want You” is sung by lead guitarist Vicki Peterson. Rhythm guitar is Susanna Hoffs with Debbi Peterson on drums and Annette Zilinskas on bass.

Woo-HOO! Thanks again. As you know, this is "new" Bangles material to me.

Wow! I love the Bangles, and I thought I had all of their releases. I have never heard of this E.P., nor heard this song. I really liked it. Since the new MOG appears to have posts with songs posted by popularity, I got tired of scrolling through pages and just found your page.

Thanks so much for this. Now, if you could just post the other tracks - I guess you burned this off of vinyl? I will have to look for that E.P. eBay, here I come!

Great Buildings - "Dream That Never Dies" (1981)

After the demise of The Quick, bandmembers Danny Wilde and Ian Ainsworth teamed up with Richard Sandford and Phil Solem to form the band Great Buildings. A marvelous album released in 1981 on Columbia Records called "Apart From The Crowd" was the result. This album has been a staple of our radio broadcast for almost three decades and it is a shame that the album has never been released in the digital age. No compact disc release and no digital download release. A crying shame...


There was no second album but Danny Wilde went on to record three albums of his own and with Phil Solem, released a fantastic set of musical gems as that powerhouse group, The Rembrandts.

Rocker and singer-songwriter James Deem was a guest on The Time Machine. He shared his thoughts behind two of his songs and discussed the upcoming Charlotte Pop Fest.

Singer-songwriter Micah Wolf was a return guest giving our audience a quick update on two upcoming concert performances in Hawaii double billed with Matt Costa who has been touring like a whirlwind with his second release "Unfamiliar Faces" on Jack Johnson's label Brushfire Records. Micah also discussed the finishing touches on his second album with the help of Rick Tyner on bass and Rick Tyner and Chava Godinez on the drums.

Chiming in are radio hosts Summer Blue and Michael McCartney discussing Summer's training for an upcoming triathlon.

The Skies Of America is the band that lets Rob Bonfiglio show off his musical craft. Rob returned to The Time Machine to share with us his take on his early years, his stint with Wanderlust and Superstone plus sharing his latest batch of music from The Skies Of America.

We haven't had the greatest luck with podcasting our broadcasts. So many services that cost us money and don't work. Even free sites often come up short. Dave Stephens

Dave Stephens is just the kind of artist that fits perfectly into our radio show. He would fit nicely on anyone's stereo. This Canadian artist struck us as an artist who falls into the Emitt Rhodes school of pop. We don't like to compare one artist to another and although he does't actually sound like Emitt Rhodes or Paul McCartney or Ali Thomson for that matter - either way - Dave Stephens is the real deal. His songs are infectious!

Watching him perform is like seeing either Jeff Lynne or Arlo Guthrie singing with a higher voice that results in your toes tapping and legs shaking to an irrestible beat. It's not the best analogy but his music is the "bees knees". Listen for yourself:
