Best Radio Station on Maui for 2008 - Voted By Readers of Maui Time Weekly

Mana'o Radio and KPOA have won in the past but 2008 brought a wonderful surprise to the hard working crew at KPMW - WILD 105.5 FM upon the opening of Thursday's issue of Maui Time Weekly. It's the publication's annual BEST OF MAUI issue and here's the skinny from Starr Begley:

    BEST RADIO STATION

    WILD 105.5

Whoo-hoo! To me, this is by far the most exciting vote that's been cast in all of Best of Maui history. But then again, I am extremely biased. As most of you know, every Monday morning I visit Wild 105.5 to do the Ed & Greg Show. Naturally, I've known for a few weeks now that their radio station beat out all the others to win Best of Maui. It's been so hard not to tell the crew down there that all of the hard work that they've put in has really paid off. Maui has noticed! So, to the whole crew at 105.5, congratulations on a great station, exciting programming and kick-ass DJ's. Restless Native is proud to be part of the madness. The Money-Making Monday madness, that's it. [SB]

    Runner up: Mana'o Radio

*The Stuart Bedasso Show also won for Editor's pick for Best Locally Produced Podcast. Congrats to both Dave and Jill!

The Bangles - "I'm In Line" and "Want You" (1982)

The Bangles self titled debut EP from 1982 was recorded in less than a week. The band’s urgency can be found in their sixties garage rock sound. The EP has yet to see a digital release but the demand of fans will keep this on a wish list for years to come.

“I’m In Line” is sung by drummer Debbi Peterson. Rhythm guitar is Susanna Hoffs with Vicki Peterson on lead guitar and Annette Zilinskas on bass. Annette also plays harmonica elsewhere on the EP. The record was produced by Craig Leon who played piano on both “Mary Street” and “The Real World”. Ethan James also played piano on “The Real World”.

“Want You” is sung by lead guitarist Vicki Peterson. Rhythm guitar is Susanna Hoffs with Debbi Peterson on drums and Annette Zilinskas on bass.

Woo-HOO! Thanks again. As you know, this is "new" Bangles material to me.

Wow! I love the Bangles, and I thought I had all of their releases. I have never heard of this E.P., nor heard this song. I really liked it. Since the new MOG appears to have posts with songs posted by popularity, I got tired of scrolling through pages and just found your page.

Thanks so much for this. Now, if you could just post the other tracks - I guess you burned this off of vinyl? I will have to look for that E.P. eBay, here I come!

Bangles how did ya know? Love the "Taxman" styled bassline. Spaghetti Zilinskas!!! First time I've heard this!

Are the Beatles one of their influences? Ya think?
    Thanks for the post people!

Maui In June - Another Afternoon Aircheck

The last weekend of June 2008 brought Summer Blue and Michael McCartney into The Time Machine studios with the usual blend of old songs and catchy new tunes. This approach to the FM dial on Maui's airwaves is either embraced by the radio audience or they quickly find themselves switching the dial in search of something a bit more safe and conservative. Whatever the response ends up to be from the listeners...it's really the result of having fun on the air with cool songs that keeps any member of The Time Machine Crew from feeling praised or persecuted. This afternoon radio aircheck has a wide variety of musical artists including; Second Saturday, Vibeke, Bangles, She & Him, The Bunnies, Ken Sharp, Priscilla Ahn, Ex Norwegian, Trooper, Rachel Sweet, Bee Gees, Liz Phair, Ringo Starr & Chrissie Hynde, Northern Light, Lisa Mychols, Supertramp, Sheri Miller, The Producers, Katie Herzig, Mike & The Mechanics, Pretenders, Donna Loren and Peter Gabriel with the Soweto Gospel Choir from the film "Wall-E".
