    Songs For Aidan

Aidan Knox just celebrated his tenth birthday this week. He celebrated it in a hospital bed while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. This particular sarcoma is an aggressive cancer that requires aggressive treatment. Aidan is currently undergoing nine months of treatment at the Children's Hospital Of Pittsburgh. His treatment includes intensive chemotherapy on a compressed schedule and thirty-one radiation treatments to his tumor site which is his spine. Aidan's father is Lance Knox. Lance is an online listener of The Time Machine and shared his son's cancer battle with the Maui radio audience. Aidan is an inspiration with his high spirits during this ordeal that is beyond physically and emotionally draining to anyone who has had to deal with chemo. "Songs For Aidan" is a charity compilation on compact disc and digitally to raise money for the Oncology Child Life Department of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh where Aidan receives his treatment. Child Life provides activities, board games, video games (and consoles), books and toys to the patients during their admissions to the hospital. They do their best to make the time the kids have to spend in the hospital as pleasant and fun as possible. The CD features exclusive versions of songs from singer-songwriters Jim Boggia and Brandon Schott that have helped the family immensely during Aidan's diagnosis and treatment and have a message that they believe can help others who find themselves in difficult situations. The fundraising goal is a simple modest one to raise $1000 which would roughly be about 300 compilations sold.

Jim Boggia offers a brand new acoustic version of his song "Live The Proof". It's a song about the power of positive thinking and positive action, that has become a mantra for Aidan's family throughout Aidan's battle with Ewing's sarcoma. Every day they try to "Live The Proof" and take Jim's advice to "Go into the world you see, like it's already the way that it should be."

Brandon Schott offers a new, more intimate take on his song "Turning Toward The Sun" which he wrote when he was in treatment for cancer. The Knox family received Brandon's video when they were in a dark place about Aidan's illness. It gave them hope to see that this journey doesn't always end in sadness. We do our best to find the light in our situation. Admittedly it isn't always easy to find, but it's always there and even the tiniest bit of "sunshine" can make a huge difference.

Aidan's particular type of cancer requires him to spend a lot of time in the hospital. He has to be admitted to Children's hospital every two weeks to receive his chemotherapy. He has two day admissions which aren't that bad and five day admissions which are difficult for him. Near the end of those five day stays, he gets pretty homesick and just generally sad. This gave the family an idea for a project that might lift his spirits. A YouTube channel was created called "Songs For Aidan" and Mom and Dad (Jamie and Lance) were hoping that they could get musicians / artists from all over to offer a little personal word or two of encouragement and play a song for him. As of this week, there are currently thirty-six music videos posted on the "Songs For Aidan" YouTube channel featuring a wide variety of musicians including Steve Burns ("Blue's Clues"), Mike Viola, Slow Runner, Emily Robinson and Robert DeStefano of The Blood Rush. "When he's stuck in the hospital and feeling down, we can show him the videos so he can see just how many people are pulling for him and really there's nothing cooler than having someone play and sing a song just for you."

Along with Lance Knox and Aidan Knox on the radio, artists featured on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include Jim Boggia and Brandon Schott.

Andrew Curry Debuts New "Lite Rock" from Paul Myers and Cliff Hillis

Record producer Andrew Curry from The Monsters Of Lite Rock website returns to The Time Machine to debut two brand new arrangements of classic songs from the forthcoming release "Drink A Toast To Innocence: A Tribute To Lite Rock". Andrew has become a fixture on The Time Machine Radio Show since late last year discussing the album project and featuring songs from this loving tribute for pop fans all over the world. This time around, making their world broadcast debut on the radio, were two wonderful arrangements from Cliff Hillis and Paul Myers. Cliff Hillis recorded Terence Boylan's 1977 song "Shake It" that Ian Matthews cut for his 1978 album "Stealin' Home", which became a number four hit single in 1979. Former guest on The Time Machine, Paul Myers (The Gravelberrys), pays homage to Michael Martin Murphey's "Wildfire", which was originally recorded at the famous Caribou Ranch in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and released as a single in 1975, where it climbed to number two on the Billboard charts and number one on the Radio & Records charts.

Lisa Loeb Returns To The Time Machine

Singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb returned to The Time Machine. Lisa has been a core artist on The Time Machine's playlists since her debut single "Stay" topped the charts nearly nineteen years ago. The talented songstress solidified her strength on the Maui airwaves with each subsequent album release. The gifted artist shared her thoughts with the radio audience and inspirations behind some of the songs off of her brand new album "No Fairy Tale" with radio host Michael McCartney.

The album was co-produced by guitarist Chad Gilbert who is also a founding member of rockers New Found Glory. Adding to the mix to make a cohesive almost power pop and overall punky album included Hello Goodbye's Forrest Kline & Joe Marro, Maia Sharp, Tegan & Sara (who outside of her "Camp Lisa" album recorded not one but two songs from the Canadian siblings that she had no hand in writing and gave those songs a distinctive edge that is still Lisa), Morgan Taylor, Chuck Wolverton, Marvin Etzioni and veteran mix engineer Brad Wood (The Bangles, That Dog, Smashing Pumpkins, Ben Lee, Liz Phair, Dar Williams, Veruca Salt, The Lilacs, Placebo and Pete Yorn).

Brian Ray and Orianthi Panagaris Interviews On The Time Machine

Are you ready for a rockin' Valentine's Day? Rockers and singer-songwriters Brian Ray and Orianthi Panagaris were recent musical guests on The Time Machine. Brian returned to the radio show to give not only the Maui radio audience a chance to listen to "Sucker For Love" by The Bayonets, but it was also a world broadcast debut from the duo made up of Oliver Leiber and Brian Ray. In addition to Brian's own solo work, over a decade as musical arranger for Etta James and as Paul McCartney's guitarist for over ten years (That's right, Rock fans, Brian has been playing with Paul longer than any member of Wings...let that piece of music trivia soak in.), Brian teamed up with Oliver to release a new digital single every seven weeks from The Bayonets. Brian and Oliver also enlisted the help of their musical outlaw pals Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello), Adam McDougall (Black Crowes), Scott Shriner (Weezer), Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) and Lucrecia López Sanz (Nube 9). Orianthi's incredible guitar playing was once again featured on her latest single "Frozen" that's been featured in heavy rotation on The Time Machine the past month. Orianthi shared her inspiration for the song and discussed her upcoming album "Heaven In This Hell". The Time Machine Crew were excited that Ori was able to be on the broadcast between her latest gig as a member of Alice Cooper's band (two world tours so far) and her third album produced by the talented Dave Stewart to be released on March 12th. Radio host Michael McCartney had the volume cranked up to full blast in the air studio and was enjoying the pure pop bliss of both guitarists and their craft. Both gifted artists made the radio show sizzle with rock.

Rocker, singer-songwriter and producer; Linus Dotson, known to the musical world as Linus Of Hollywood, was a recent guest on The Time Machine. Linus shared with the radio audience about his musical career; including his work as half of the duo Palmdale with Kay Hanley and his contribution to the forthcoming release "Drink A Toast To Innocence: A Tribute To Lite Rock". Linus decided to share his cover of Leo Sayer's classic arrangement of "More Than I Can Say" which was composed by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison which also garnered some airplay from Bobby Vee. You'll appreciate the guitar work that Linus brought to this wonderful song. Singer-songwriter Kelly Jones also returned to the broadcast with her beautiful arrangement of England Dan and John Ford Coley's classic song "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" composed by Parker McGee that Kelly also submitted to the same Lite Rock tribute album, along with her recent work on Secret Friend's album "Time Machine", which we've been spinning heavily for obvious reasons. Alexx Calise Returns To The Time Machine

Rocker and singer-songwriter Alexx Calise returned as a musical guest on The Time Machine. She shared with the radio audience her thoughts behind the inspirations for the songs on her latest EP "AC3" released at the end of 2012.

"I don’t feel sorry for being who I am”, proclaims sharp-tongued Alexx Calise. Delivering a sound that is both fresh and uniquely her own, Alexx combines crunchy rock riffs with probing lyrics and hooky pop melodies. In addition to her own musical output, Alexx also teamed up with drummer and songwriter Dennis Morehouse, to form the band Sound Of Cancer.

    The Time Machine

Told throughout most of her career to not play guitar as much or at all, and to pursue a more “proven” musical direction, Alexx instead chose to focus even more so on her instrument, practicing some five to six hours a day, and follow the only direction she knew how to - her own.

Countless film and TV placements and millions of Youtube hits later, Calise has proven that her torchy vocals, gritty guitar work and heart and soul lyrics are enough to make an incredible international impact, even as a completely independent artist.

Calise's hit song "Cry" became a web phenomenon almost overnight (spawning hundreds of covers, tributes and dance routines) after it appeared on the Lifetime show “Dance Moms”. It charted at #64 on the iTunes US Rock Chart and its official video features "Dance Moms" star, Maddie Ziegler, who danced to the song in several episodes of the show.

Calise's 3rd solo effort, "AC3" (which signifies Calise's 3rd album and also shows her affinity for her Vox AC-30 guitar amp) goes back to the chanteuse's alt-grunge roots, and showcases her vocal prowess, impressive guitar chops and exponential growth as a songwriter. Produced entirely at home by Alexx and producer/engineer Wes Michener (Puddle of Mudd, Marilyn Manson, Pixie Lott), AC3 is a refreshingly honest and raw record, and shows a side of Calise that fans have yet to see.

Calise’s music has appeared on a multitude of different shows such as “Dance Moms” (Lifetime), "Dance Moms: Miami" (Lifetime), "Last Call With Carson Daly" (NBC), "The Voice" (NBC), Audrina” (VH-1), "Tough Love" (VH-1), “NY Ink” (TLC), “Next” (MTV), "10 on Top" (MTV), “One Tree Hill” (CW), "Texas Women" (CMT) and in the upcoming feature film, “LA, I Hate You” starring Malcolm McDowell and William Forsythe.
