THE TIME MACHINE is a radio program that uses a nonsense name as an excuse in order to play music from all over the musical spectrum. The show plays a lot of new stuff in addition to covering over 70 years of POP sounds.
"We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school."
- Bruce Springsteen from NO SURRENDER (1984)

Yvonne Elliman Interview on The Time Machine
The Time Machine Crew were honored to have singer-songwriter Yvonne Elliman as a guest on the radio program. Her talent has shined and engaged audiences from the stage, screen and musical performances that have proven to be timeless.
Other artists heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include; Eric Clapton, The Bee Gees, Stephen Bishop, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends with Eric Clapton, The Smith Bros., Rick Derringer, Emmylou Harris & Mark Knopfler, Ben Lee & Mandy Moore, Rachael Yamagata, Wings and Fiona Apple.
Ultraviolet Sound will soon be releasing their sophomore album since the group, also known as UVS, released their first full length record, "OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Dancing)". Since the band's second album is fast approaching, The Time Machine Crew thought that it would be a kick to go back and share with you an interview with one of the band's co-founders. Rocker and singer-songwriter Sarah Hudson was a guest on The Time Machine and Sarah's catchy songs have been a part of our playlists since her first album "Naked Truth" was released in 2004. In addition to discussing her music, Sarah shared her thoughts on one of her favorite songs that her father Mark Hudson (producer and singer-songwriter) had recorded with her uncles Bill Hudson and Brett Hudson. Naturally, this gave radio host Michael McCartney an excuse to play a set of songs from The Hudson Brothers.
Other artists heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include; Charles Wright And The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, Tori Amos, The Hudson Brothers, Fiona Apple and Missing Persons.
Rocker and singer-songwriter Mark Bacino was a guest on The Time Machine a few times over the past decade. Mark's catchy songs have been a part of our playlists since the late nineties when he released his first album "Pop Job...The Long Player" in 1998. With his new album "Queens English" coming out this May 18th, The Time Machine Crew thought that it would be fun to take a listen to the talented and musical gifted Mark Bacino's previous interview when his sophomore release "The Million Dollar Milkshake" was dominating the FM dial on Maui. Mark returned to the broadcast to not only discuss his music but was also guest DJ. He also shared a song that has yet to be released.
Other artists heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include; David Bowie, Fountains Of Wayne, Randy Newman, T-Rex, Jon Brion, The Beatles, Maria Mena, Freedy Johnston, KISS, Josh Rouse, Bowling For Soup, Sloan, B.J. Thomas and Rhett Miller.
Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon Interview on The Time Machine
Rock and Roll legend and singer-songwriter Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon has been a guest on The Time Machine a number of times over the years. The Time Machine Crew thought that it would be a treat to listen to the first time that Freddy stopped by the studio to chat with radio host Michael McCartney. Pure radio magic between musical artist and radio disc jockey.
Other artists heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include Weezer and Wham!.

Singer-songwriter Sabrina Taylor was a guest on The Time Machine. Sabrina has been a part of our playlists the last six years and it was nice to have her on the broadcast.
Radio hosts Summer Blue and Michael McCartney were having an off day with one another on the air but that didn't stop them from playing some pop on the radio show. To say that they went overboard puts it mildly. Other artists heard on this Maui afternoon FM broadcast include; Old 97's, Courtney Jaye, Jeff Lynne, Squeeze, Babyface, Aimee Mann, The Donnas, Fountains Of Wayne, The Bangles, The Click Five, Green Day, All American Rejects, Ashlee Simpson, Fall Out Boy, Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5, Gwen Stefani, The Holograms, Bea, Cori Yarckin, Nina Gordon and Michelle Branch.

The first on-air studio performance of the new decade brought singer-songwriter Lindsey Yung to The Time Machine. Lindsey's sophomore release "Opal Essence" has been a part of our playlists since 2008. The talented San Diego artist began singing as a child, making her professional debut at age 5, in the musical "South Pacific". The rest, as they say, is history.
Lindsey’s music has received recognition on many levels. She won the 2006 Los Angeles Music Award for the category: Female Singer/Songwriter of the Year and was nominated by popular vote for a 2007 San Diego H.A.T. award (Honoring Acoustic Talent Award) in the category of "best vocalist". She received a 2008 "honor award" for her song "With Every Breath" from the 9th Annual Great American Song Contest and was nominated for a 2008 and 2009 Asian Heritage Award in the category of "performing arts". "Opal Essence" was included on the coveted list of "Best Albums of 2008" put out by KGRL FM and The Time Machine's "Most Played Albums of 2008". Most recently, Lindsey’s song "It Doesn’t Get Better Than This" made it to the finals of the Kauai Music Festival Songwriting Competition 2009.
Hosts Daphne Matsumoto and Michael McCartney also played songs from other artists on this Maui afternoon FM radio broadcast including; Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Klaatu, Musical Youth, The Smith Bros., Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry, Doug Powell and Matthew Sweet.
Daphne Matsumoto and Michael McCartney rang in the new year and the new decade with songs from albums that got the most airplay on The Time Machine during 2009. Summer Blue and Jenny Leong served as producers making sure that there were no pizza stains on the CDs.
Artists dominating the playlists last year are featured on this Maui afternoon FM radio aircheck including; Alice Peacock, Anya Marina, Cheap Trick, Bleu, Marshall Crenshaw, Lisa Donnelly, Kelly Jones, She & Him, Courtney Jaye, Lisa Mychols, Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet, Norah Jones, Rachael Yamagata, Glenn Tilbrook & The Fluffers, Smith & Pyle, Rusty Anderson and Chris Isaak.
Daphne Matsumoto and Michael McCartney rang in the new year and the new decade with songs that got the most airplay on The Time Machine during 2009. Summer Blue and Jenny Leong served as producers keeping the radio duo in check and well behaved. Rockers and singer-songwriters, Chloe F. Orwell and Brad Elvis from the band The Handcuffs (pictured above), had their album "Electroluv" garnering so much airplay last year that The Time Machine Crew had wondered if they'd ever find the keys to unlock those musical handcuffs and make room for other artists on Maui's FM dial. Likewise for Rob Bonfiglio's album "Bring On The Happy", Mark Hudson's "The Artist" and Mandy Moore's album "Amanda Leigh". Gail Swanson released her long anticipated follow-up to "Living In A Movie" with her end of the year release of "Simple Truth" and among the number of wonderful songs getting spins at the end of the year included her duet with Michael McDonald on the classic Skeeter Davis smash hit "End Of The World". Some of the finest musical acts have recorded that song over the years like The Carpenters, John Mellencamp, Loretta Lynn, Herman's Hermits, Brenda Lee, Bobby Vinton, Johnny Mathis, Julie London, Eddy Arnold, Dottie West, Nancy Sinatra, Sonia Evans, Twiggy, Claudine Longet, ABBA's Agnetha Fältskog, Rosie Flores, Patti Page, Anne Murray, Nina Gordon, Vonda Shepard, Exposé, The Vanguards, Leigh Nash, Lobo and even Susan Boyle last year. This time around, what makes the record so magical is the simplicity of Michael McDonald's ukulele playing against the vocal performance of both Gail and himself. Other artists dominating the playlists last year are featured on this Maui afternoon aircheck including; Throwback Suburbia, Michael Carpenter, Lisa Donnelly, Bangles, Mike Viola, Jason Falkner, Pete Best Band, Anny Celsi, Kelly Jones, Ida Maria, Butch Walker, The Major Labels, Rachael Yamagata, The Holograms and James Carter Cathcart. Plus another 2008 song that continued with heavy airplay into 2009 was "Love Take Me Down (To The Streets) from Joey Curatolo, Amy Miles, Chris Anderson and Charles Ganja.
Daphne Matsumoto and Michael McCartney rang in the new year and the new decade with songs that got the most airplay on The Time Machine during 2009. Summer Blue and Jenny Leong served as producers keeping the shave ice coming into the studio. This Maui afternoon FM broadcast includes the Grammy nominated Maui artist Amy Hanaiali'i and her duet with John Cruz covering George Harrison's "What Is Life". The entire Time Machine Crew has their fingers crossed for Amy's chance to take home a Grammy for Best Hawaiian Album this January 31st, 2010. Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet returned to The Time Machine with heavy airplay in 2009 with their second album release "Under The Covers: Volume Two" which also featured a George Harrison cover. The duo also brought along Dhani Harrison to perform on his Dad's song "Beware Of Darkness". Other gifted talented artists featured on this aircheck include; Anya Marina, Miles Nielsen, Schuyler Fisk, Brandi Carlile, The Smith Bros., The Singles, U2, The Backsliders, Owl City, Tinted Windows, Rhett Miller, The Throwdowns, Rachael Yamagata and Brian Ray.
Rocker and singer-songwriter Brian Ray returned to The Time Machine a few months ago and was not only our guest DJ but also permitted us to play his upcoming album "This Way Up" as a world broadcast debut on the FM dial and online. In addition to performing a couple of his songs live on the air, Brian also let us play his new song "I Found You" that included an absolute killer rock instrumental break. He explained that he something in store for last weekend's halftime show between the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans.
The Time Machine's Summer Blue, Michael McCartney, Jenny Leong and Daphne Matsumoto have been gabbing about this on the radio all week long and now you can see it for yourself!
Brian arranged and produced a tribute to Les Paul featuring Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen and Orianthi from Michael Jackson's band. Brian stated about his guitar partners on stage, "He's a god, she's reDUNKulous!" Add in the 100 kids on guitars for Gibson Foundation's Music In Schools program and you have got an amazing guitar performance.
Are you ready for this? Seriously? Are you ready? Set your volume to ten or at least snap on a headset if you can't blast this video around others.
As Daphne Matsumoto pointed out...he's in the "Shave Ice Club" so this is a special video dedication to Dave, Ululani, Sasha, Jenn, Emi, Lynette, Eddie, Lorri, Daniel, Ryan, Mareva, Kai, Randy, Kailana, Bill, Carla, Samantha, Hayley, Alison, Amica, Sam, Karen, Angie, Mick, Laureen, Cyrus, Brittany, Jefferson, Salina, Scott, Larry, Donora, Myrna, Jenny, Bridget, Chris, Cory, Danielle, Nal, Keana, Ashley and other shave ice rock and rollers at heart.
