A Warm Lovin Christmastime Is More Than I Wished For on The Time Machine
It was another radio marathon for The Time Machine Crew this Christmas season with Summer Blue sitting in producer Jenny Leong's seat, making sure that Daphne Matsumoto and Michael McCartney were never without Christmas music while behind their microphones. Special thanks goes out to Kathy Collins for unleashing The Time Machine Crew to let their Christmas Ya-Ya's out for the Maui audiences. Kathy did a marathon herself spinning yuletide favorites. The amount of radio airtime given to Daphne, Summer and Michael for two days of commercial free non stop yuletide musical fun is unprecedented on Maui radio as The Time Machine keeps topping the previous years of Christmas broadcasts. All of the radio stations involved for putting up with The Time Machine Radio Christmas Crew will find some nifty treats in their stockings this year.
Speaking of treats, the Christmas broadcast tradition of being catered by former disc jockey Deron Furukawa and upside down kitty lover Kit Zulueta, continued with baking love from the kitchen to keep the air talent in a hyper and cheerful mood. DJ Kai and announcer Ali's brownies were deeply missed again this year, as was producer Jenny's seasonal smoothies, but this year was filled with Christmas musical treats from Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent who sent us a brand new Christmas song from The Zombies and Eric Carmen letting The Time Machine present the world broadcast debut of his brand spanking new song "Brand New Year", just in time as the year comes to an end and hopeful new one begins. Onolicious kudos go out to Deron, Kit, Colin, Rod and Eric.
Special radio appearances on this Christmas Radio Special include Susan West, Jamie Knight & Michael Simmons of sparkle*jets u.k., Sheri Miller, Whitney Wolanin, Kate Goldby & Zac Anthony from The Wellingtons, Mike Viola, Rob Bonfiglio, Rachael Yamagata, Andrea Perry, Albert Brooks, Schuyler Fisk, Susanna Hoffs and Adam Waltermire.
This portion of the Christmas FM broadcast featured on this podcast is titled "A Warm Lovin' Christmastime Is More Than I Wished For" which is derived from two Christmas songs. The first part of the title is taken from "Warm Lovin' Christmastime", a holiday song from singer-songwriter Rob Bonfiglio that The Time Machine has enjoyed playing every Christmas the past few years. Rob's song has since been covered by Wilson Phillips and last year Rob released another Christmas tune on a 45 RPM single. The other song is FM Radio's "More Than I Wished For". FM Radio is the duo of Tim Myers and Schuyler Fisk (the F is for Fisk and the M is for Myers). Their song "More Than I Wished For" has also been a Christmas staple the past few years on The Time Machine. Schuyler has her own Christmas album that should be in your music collection. Singer-songwriter Alicia Witt has been in heavy rotation on the Maui airwaves the past five weeks with her second Christmas single "I'm Not Ready For Christmas" and The Time Machine Crew were excited to add Lisa Donnelly's version of "Toyland" to the seasonal mix because Lisa's song was featured at the end of Alicia's Christmas film "A Snow Globe Christmas" featured on the Lifetime TV Network this month. Other brand new Christmas songs were featured from Meiko, The Dukes of Surf, Kelly Clarkson, Orianthi & Cyril Niccolai, Nick Lowe, Whitney Wolanin, Lenka, Rhett Miller with Sydney Wayser, DeDe and Katie Shorey with Erick Macek. Other artists heard on this Maui Christmas FM aircheck include Andrew Gold, Mike Nichols & Elaine May, Stephen Colbert, Rachael Yamagata, Kelly Jones, Liz Phair, Mandy Moore, The Super Fuzz, The Bangles, Randy Bachman, Eytan Mirsky, Andrea Perry, Mike Viola, Paul McCartney and The Time Machine Christmas Crew.
A special "shout out" goes to our beloved Irina Voronina who has always been there for The Time Machine Radio Crew. A true friend. Some new kitty collars will be in her stocking this Christmas for her furry companions.
